Berliner der Kase Cheese (Whole Foods Exclusive)

It has been awhile since I have posted a new grilledshane creation and I apologize for that. This here is just a quick grilled cheese to hold you over until my grand St. Patrick’s Day grilled cheese, courtesy of the awesome people at Kerrygold cheese. Look for that in the next couple of days.
For now, I want to talk to you about the cheese that has a funky name, Berliner der Kase. It is a cheese that I simply stumbled on because I wanted to look at the beer at Whole Foods and it happened to be placed right in the middle of all the delicious bottles of alcoholic goodness. I knew nothing about this cheese, only that it is a Whole Foods exclusive…and that it was on sale. So I went ahead and purchased it. And thoroughly enjoyed it.
I wanted to enlighten myself more on this cheese, but Google and the manufacturer’s web site were of no help. Neither were able to find the cheese “Berliner der Kase.” It’s as if I stumbled on a random cheese that truly does not exist. Regardless, this is how the package describes the cheese…
citrusy, caramel taste notes harmonize beautifully with melt in your mouth consistency
Berliner der Kase was really delicious and with every bite, it reminded me more and more of Swiss. In terms of cheeses, Swiss is kind of middle of the road for me, but this cheese impressed more than just middle of the road. It had great flavor and a great smooth, creamy texture. I am not sure I was able to taste the citrus or caramel notes that are described on the package, but I didn’t hold that against Berliner der Kase. If you have a Whole Foods near you, I would definitely try and find it.
