While walking around Whole Foods with the sous chef, I was trying to think of an idea for tonight’s grilled cheese. I had thought broccoli but quickly dismissed that. I thought potatoes, but was unsure of my choices other than potato chips. That is when the sous […]

The minute I stumbled on SippitySup’s Say Cheese-Creative Quesadillas Have Arrived entry (& Russ Parsons’ article), I knew that this would be my next “grilled cheese” to try. I had already established that quesadillas are in fact grilled cheese sandwiches so I was free to […]
No great ideas came to mind when thinking of a new grilled cheese recipe so I traveled to Whole Foods for some inspiration. There, I of course found the goat milk cheddar but I also found some great bread. From there, I decided that I would go with a simple grilled cheese with a bit of flair. When sticking with one dish for so long, it is always good to go back to the basics, even if they are spiced up a bit. Plus, sometimes father prefers the simple. (more…)
Yesterday, I googled broccoli cauliflower puree, hoping to find great inspiration for the evening’s grilled cheese. However, the 3rd result was for the exact opposite: Broccoli and Cauliflower Puree :: 6–9 Months – Baby Recipes…. I never thought that a couple of the search results would be for baby food! I did not want to make dinner for my nephew, so I avoided all of those links. (more…)
Ever since I can remember, I have loved grilled cheese sandwiches. Also, ever since I can remember, I have loved to cook. Put the two together and you have one happy Shane. In order to broaden my horizons, I have taken those two ideas and created Sunday Dinners. Every Sunday night, I will create a grilled cheese concotion, taste and then rate. This way I will be able to experience with new ingredients such as various cheeses and breads. I hope this will begin to enhance my culinary knowledge.
Tonight, being the inaugural evening, I went with something simple. The ingredients are not totally out of this world or even weird for a grilled cheese but they are good together. As mentioned, in the future, I will branch out and try other ingredients, some that people may not think of to use on a grilled cheese.
- White Cheddar Cheese
- Homemade Basil Pesto
- Homemade Sundried Tomatoes
- Sourdough Bread
grilled cheese grade: B+
Overall, I would definitely say that tonight was a good first effort. There is room for improvement, including simply perfecting the cooking method for the grilled cheese. I believe that the bread was too buttery/greasy and one side was over-cooked while the other was cooked perfectly. We were rushed, so that does factor into the equation, but hopefully in the future we will have more time.
In the future I hope to give a better, more thorough description, including photos, but for now, I will just leave you with this final grade. Thanks for reading, I hope you check back next Sunday for another edition of Sunday Dinners.
