Everything Bagel & Mushroom Grilled Cheese

Everything Bagel & Mushroom Grilled Cheese

I created this grilled cheese over a week ago, but have been busy traveling to NY for business and then trying to recover. Only now have I had a second to sit down and write down so please enjoy. Prior to starting though, I must

Red Pepper Patriotic Grilled Cheese

Red Pepper Patriotic Grilled Cheese

In honor of Memorial Day, I decided that I was going to make a red, white and blue grilled cheese sandwich. The only problem is there really aren’t many blue ingredients in the wild. (There are, however, white ingredients, mozzarella, and red ingredients, red peppers.)

Pizza Sub Grilled Cheese

Pizza Sub Grilled Cheese

I apologize for the delayed write-up for this week’s grilled cheese, but my MacBook Pro had to return to Apple as it had a dying hard drive. Luckily, all of the data was retrievable, including all of my grilled cheese/Sunday Dinner documents. *phew* Now onto the sandwich…a combination of a pizza and a grilled cheese: a pizza sub.

ingredients:

  • Fresh Shredded Mozzarella/Provolone
  • Tomato Sauce
  • Baby Portobello Mushrooms
  • Sliced Tomatoes
  • Sesame Semolina Bread

thoughts

I have decided that as I continue to create different sandwiches, the question of whether they are actually grilled cheese sandwiches will continue to arise. This sandwich is no different. Some may simply call this a pizza sub, but I call it a pizza sub grilled cheese sandwich. And said sandwich was very yummy. There were some cons, but I would definitely make it again. I believe the best part may have actually been the bread…

"Pizza Sub" Grilled Cheese Ingredients: Mushrooms & Tomatoes

As already stated, the pizza sub grilled cheese was very good. However, there were a couple of things that I may have done differently. On my grilled cheese, I actually added more sauce after already placing the tomatoes and mushrooms on the pizza sub. That was a mistake, as I believe the sauce overpowered the mushrooms and sliced tomatoes, which should have been the focus. Going a step further, the tomato sauce, that I spiced up a bit, may not have been needed at all. I believe that using the sliced tomatoes and portobello added enough pizza style to the grilled cheese that the sauce was overkill.

"Pizza Sub" Grilled Cheese Ingredients: Potatoes (Side Dish)

I chose the bread for this pizza sub as an homage to a great pizza place, Cottage Inn. When my family first tried this pizza, in Michigan, they included sesame seeds on the bottom of their crust. Unfortunately, they have since stopped the process, but the seeds really did add something to the pizza and this grilled cheese. The bread was crunchy on the outside while being very soft on the inside. It seemed to fit perfectly with the pizza theme that was running throughout the sandwich.

Oddly enough, I do not have much to write for my final thoughts. It may be because it is now Tuesday/Wednesday and I ate the pizza sub grilled cheese on Sunday, or, it was one of those sandwiches that doesn’t need overanalyzing. It is most likely a little of both. Either way, I would definitely suggest this pizza sub grilled cheese, with those minor changes I mentioned above.

As some of you may have read in my entry on Sunday, there was some rescheduling going on with this week’s Sunday Dinner; it switched to Tuesday. I was planning on cooking this recipe on Sunday but we had a special guest on Tuesday, so

Happy belated Valentine’s Day to everyone out there. I hope everyone had a great day and a great weekend. In honor of the holiday, I went with strawberries as one of my main ingredients for this week’s grilled cheese. Seriously, how could I not? Since
